October 9 2023: Death At The Altar
I'm in a band now! We're called Death At The Altar and we had our first practice yesterday! I had a lot of fun. Making friends and being able to make music for real makes me feel really good. Maybe the antidepressants are working, maybe things are finally falling into place for me. We worked on a cover of Helena, and I think it really is coming along great. Our guitarist couldn't make it, but even with two singers, a bassist, and a drummer, we made a ton of progress. Our drummer learned Helena on the spot, and by the end of the day, we produced a pretty alright cover of Helena. We're already trying to plan original songs and an album. I know I'm super busy this month, but I feel good about dedicating time to this band. Fall break is next week for some reason, so I think that's when I'll hunker down and write all my college essays and pull together my portfolio. I've been listening to a lot of Bikini Kill and Le Tigre this weekend, and I'm really inspired by their sound. Meaningful punk that's just very fun to listen to. That's the kind of music I want to make. I think we're gonna become this amalgamation of punk and post-punk and goth and screamo and every genre the band loves. Exciting stuff! I have this album idea I'm working on. I'm gonna take a look at old lyrics I wrote last year and see if I can flesh out this concept... If we ever play shows I'll post about them here too. You're all invited to our record release when it happens :)
